The Professional Year Program is a 44-week program divided into 12 weeks of internship and 32 weeks of coursework. It is gazetted by the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) and managed by the respective Professional bodies.

No, you will not get paid as it is part of the Professional Year Program.

It is important for migration purposes. You will only be eligible for migration points towards permanent residency after the completion of this program.

No, but a person who successfully completes the Professional Year Program may be awarded five (5) points under an eligible skilled occupation.

No. The aim of the professional program is to prepare recent graduates with the work skills required for a career in Australia. It does not guarantee job placement.

The Professional Year Program is important because it helps to develop communicative skills, practical experience and knowledge of Australian workplace and culture.

The applicants must hold, or have applied for, the subclass 485 Temporary Residence visa. They can be on a Bridging visa or Student visa, but must have applied for the 485 visa and provide evidence. 485 visa holders must have a valid visa for the duration of the Professional Year program. Engineering graduates with a positive skill assessment form Engineers Australia and holding a 476 visa (Skilled-Recognised Graduate visa) are also eligible for an Engineering Professional Year.

The language requirement for International students to be eligible for the Professional Year Program is English. The score required is a minimum IELTS test score of 6.0 and nothing less than 6 in each band to be eligible for Professional Year.

You will need to submit the following documents in order to apply for this program:

i. Application Form.
ii. Certified copy of passport.
iii. CV/Resume.
iv. Certified evidence of English language proficiency (IELTS).
v. Certified evidence of current visa status.
vi. Certified copy of academic documents.
vii. A successful skill assessment from relevant assessing bodies.
